Twenty-nine years on Main Street — Gabe Diaz's new chapter in Fugazzi's original room
One visit to this downtown hotspot and you'll feel like family.
— Gabe Diaz, Owner
Mike Fligor's 1997 room
Fugazzi's opened on West Main Street in downtown Visalia in 1997 — a project of Mike and Debbie Fligor, who set out to give the block an Italian-American room that felt walk-in familiar. Over the next quarter century the Fligor group would grow to four Central Valley kitchens: Visalia, Hanford, Tulare, and Kingsburg.
The Main Street flagship stayed the anchor.
A quiet handoff, October 2022
Gabe Diaz had worked at Fugazzi's for sixteen years when he bought the Main Street location from Mike Fligor in October 2022. It was a quiet family transaction rather than a chain sale — the other three locations stayed with the Fligor group, run by other longtime employees.
Gabe still meets with Mike Fligor and the other Fugazzi's operators to talk strategy. Continuity was the point.
Sixteen years on the floor before he ever held the keys.
Downtown Visalia, then and now
Downtown Visalia's Main Street is a walkable strip of independent shops, theaters, and family-run kitchens between the Sierra foothills and Sequoia National Park. Fugazzi's has anchored this block for nearly three decades — a ten-time Taste of Downtown Visalia winner and a California Restaurant Association People's Choice honoree.
It is where locals bring out-of-town guests to prove downtown eats.
